Tourism continues to expand dynamically
Last November, nearly 1.4 million guests spent 3 million guest nights in accommodation. The number of guests was 7.9% higher and the number of guest nights was 5.8% higher than a year earlier. Between January and November 2025, the number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation exceeded the same period of the previous year by 2.8%, and that of foreign guests by 11%. This dynamic is also reflected in spending: foreign tourists arriving in Hungary spent 11% more in our country in the first 3 quarters than in the same period of 2024. The gross added value of the sector is continuously strengthening, which indicates a dynamic improvement in the economic performance of the sector.
It is also positive that the long-term decline in the number of companies operating in tourism has stopped, and there has been a small increase compared to December 2024 by the end of 2025. We expect tourism to continue to expand in 2026, in line with international trends. Domestic growth is supported by several factors: rising real wages, as well as benefits such as the gradual doubling of the family tax credit and the personal income tax credit for mothers with two and three children.
While tourism is showing dynamic expansion, the country’s hotel development market has also started to recover significantly. According to the latest commercial real estate market report of the Hungarian National Bank, the hotel segment became one of the best-performing branches of the commercial real estate market in the first half of 2025 and continuous further hotel room deliveries can be expected.
Determining processes in tourism:
- The tourism sector also performed well in November 2025: 1.4 million guests spent 3 million guest nights. The number of guests increased by 7.9% and the number of guest nights by 5.8% in tourist accommodation compared to a year earlier.
