Christian Klein remains SAP’s first man
SAP SE announced that it has extended Christian Klein’s appointment as CEO and board member for three years, until the end of 2028. At the same time, the company also strengthened Klein’s role, appointing him as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, instead of his previous status as spokesperson.
Klein, now 44, started his career at SAP in 1999 as a student. An important stage of his career within the company was the position of financial director of SAP SuccessFactors, as well as the role of director of controlling, before he was appointed operational director of SAP in 2016. He joined SAP’s board of directors in 2018, and was appointed co-CEO in October 2019, and from April 2020 he will hold the position alone.
“In recent years, Christian Klein has really consistently guided the transformation of SAP SE into a cloud-based company”
said Prof. Hasso Plattner, chairman of the supervisory board of SAP SE. “I would like to thank Christian Klein for his extraordinary contribution to SAP’s success. By extending his contract early and appointing him as CEO, we would like to emphasize his important role in the continuous transformation of SAP. We are convinced that this will lay the foundation for SAP’s further growth in the rapidly changing IT sector.”
