Canned beer still most popular
According to data from GfK Hungária ConsumerScan, sales of beer dropped in 2008. Colder than usual weather probably played a part in this. While average households had purchased 86 litres in 2007, this quantity was down to 81 litres in 2008. 67 percent of households purchased beer last year, which is also somewhat less than it had been in 2007. Canned beer remained the largest segment, accounting for 50 percent of total sales. The market share of glass bottles was down from 47 percent in 2007 to 45 percent in 2008 as a result of the growing popularity of beer in plastic bottles.
