Sheep farmers to receive additional support
The final payment of the 2024 ewes-related subsidies began in the third week of April. The Hungarian State Treasury has already disbursed the subsidy, financed from European Union funds (EAGF), to more than 6,000 sheep farmers, worth 4.5 billion forints, announced József Viski, State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development subsidies at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Sheep farmers have been able to apply for production-related support, which is decisive in the Common Agricultural Policy and of particular importance to Hungary, based on the number of ewes, for almost a decade, since 2015, and thus have direct access to financial resources. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to maintain the priority support for livestock farming in the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, including the strengthening of the sheep sector. A significant amount will be allocated to the development of livestock farms and the food industry, breeding tasks, animal welfare measures and gene conservation. The financial framework of the production-linked ewe support title will increase by 4 percent from 2025 with the involvement of additional resources.
