MediaMarkt continues to expand
On July 13, MediaMarkt opened its newest “Shop-in-Shop” store in Hódmezővásárhely. The company is planning to hand over two more units this year in the form of business implemented jointly with the Tesco hypermarket. With the three new stores, the total number of SIS units that have existed since 2016 will increase to seventeen.
The largest floor area so far, the so-called On July 13, customers were able to take possession of a “Shop in a Shop” MediaMarkt store in Hódmezővásárhely. The new store is located in the area of the local Tesco hypermarket in accordance with the SIS (Shop-in-Shop) format. The cooperation between the two retail brands began in 2016. The essence of the model is that the electronics store has a smaller area compared to the traditional MediaMarkt stores, but offers a similarly wide selection within the sales area of the Tesco hypermarket. In this way, customers can get even easier access to the desired technical and electronic products with competent help, even as part of bulk shopping. The store in Hódmezővásárhely is the fifteenth store of this type in the line, and according to the plans, two more will open their doors in the countryside later this year.
Experiences and measurements confirm the success of the model: the number of Tesco customers increased with the move of MediaMarkt in the respective settlements, and at the same time, the proportion of such stores’ turnover within the total sales turnover of the technical department store chain also increased.
