The pace of consumer price inflation in the euro area slowed further in May
The year-on-year slowdown in consumer price inflation in the euro area slowed to a lower-than-expected, but still unprecedented level in almost four years, according to a flash estimate by the European Union’s statistical office (Eurostat).
According to preliminary data released on Friday, consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in May in the eurozone’s 19-nation eurozone, the weakest since June 2016.
Analysts expected a slightly more favorable figure, up 0.2 percent, after measuring up 0.3 percent in April, 0.7 percent in March, 1.2 percent in February, and 1.4 percent in January. (MTI)
