Food can be more expensive
In short terms food prices can remain high because of the very delicate balance between supply and demand – claim international experts. Many say, it can cause a food crisis.
Although the food prices have gone down, compared to their 2008 peak, food prices are still much higher than before the crisis in 2006. The main reason of inflation, is the growing demand for agricultural raw materials and the energy demand growth without sufficient generating capacity. This is mainly causes serious problems in the developing countries. The FAO forecasts, that the average price of cereals will be 10-20 percent higher, between 2009-2018, compared to 1997-2006, while vegetable oils may cost 30 percent more – reports Index.
