Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO continues to expand
Dr. Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy State Secretary, received Anping Ye, Director of South-South and Trilateral Cooperation (SSTC) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), at the Ministry of Agriculture, to discuss the possibilities of further expansion of the cooperation between FAO and Hungary in the development of the “Global South”.
In order to SSTC’s task is to create effective international partnerships, further develop sustainable agricultural practices and technologies, and implement innovations in the field of agriculture and rural development in the countries of the “Global South”. Anping Ye emphasized that FAO SSC’s support activities are primarily aimed at small farms and young people. The director said that his organization has an excellent network of contacts that can provide support for its development activities in the region of Hungary.
Deputy State Secretary Dr. Oszkár Ökrös emphasized that it is a priority for Hungary to transfer Hungarian expertise to the developing southern countries
In the course of our development activities, we also pay special attention to the support of small farms. The deputy state secretary informed the director about the Ugandan agricultural consultant training program of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the framework of which Hungarian experts have been training agricultural professionals with outstanding results for years. Oszkár Ökrös also spoke about the Ministry of Agriculture’s joint scholarship program with FAO, through which more than 400 students from nearly 50 developing countries were able to complete their master’s studies at Hungarian agricultural universities, and he also said that Hungary plans to implement a significant aquaculture development project in East Africa in the coming years. The Deputy Secretary of State and the Director agreed that the experts and infrastructure of the FAO will further support Hungary’s efforts in the region, both in terms of consultant training and aquaculture investments.
