The Via Transilvanica tourist route is being further expanded
The 1,400-kilometer Via Transilvanica tourist route, which crosses Transylvania from the northeast to the southwest and can be traveled on foot, horseback or by bicycle, is being extended to new historical and ethnographic regions of Romania, and the first kilometer stone has already been inaugurated, the News.ro news portal reported on Tuesday.
The tourist route, which was inaugurated in October 2022, will first connect new villages in Brasov County, and the new section to be built will be called Terra Borza Teutonica. The initiator, the Tasuleasa Social Association, has already inaugurated the first kilometer stone on the new section in Viscri, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 170-kilometer-long new section connects 14 villages in Brasov County and passes near famous tourist attractions in the region, such as the Târșvări Castle, the Barcaroznei Castle and Brasov.
The works were preceded by four years of preparation. The future route is currently being cleared, marked and documented, and then granite milestones with unique carvings will be erected at each station.
The Brasov County route is part of the association’s long-term plan, which would lead the Via Transilvanica to every historical-ethnographic region of Romania in the next twenty years. For the expansion, they are counting on donations from individuals and companies, as well as the work of volunteers.
The initiator, the Tasuleasa Social Association, previously announced that by building the road, it intends to develop rural tourism and provide travelers with access to the local communities involved and their stories, thereby helping their sustainable and responsible development.
