Spain: Vegetable exports in May reached a historic sales record
The turnover of Spanish vegetable exports increased by 10.67% until May, reaching a historical record of 3.955 billion euros.
Despite the increase in exports, the volume decreased by 3.43%, the reason for this being that the prices of individual types of vegetables follow a unique trend, as well as increased transport costs due to the energy crisis. The latter has currently only appeared in the case of tomatoes, courgettes and cabbages, the price of which has started to increase significantly. The moderate drop in volume was caused by a small decrease in a fairly large range of products, the exception being red onion, which increased by 14.36% to 111,000 tons, and garlic, which increased by 5.26% to 65,000 tons.
Spanish vegetable exports also increased compared to the same period of the previous year, by 1.43 percent, which means 817,344 tons of food, of which 512,687 tons are potatoes, 69,970 tons are red onions, and 45,127 tons are green beans.
