Consumer price inflation slowed in Turkey in June
In Turkey, both annual and monthly inflation slowed down in June.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK) announced on Wednesday that the rate of annual consumer price inflation slowed to 71.60 percent in June from 75.45 percent in May, which was the highest since November 2022. Analysts expected a less moderate inflation rate of 72.60 percent for June.
The reduction in the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages from 75.45 percent in May to 71.60 percent contributed to the slowdown in inflation, but for example the price increase decreased from 92.94 percent to 90.67 percent in the case of hotels, cafes and restaurants, clothing and footwear and its annual price increase slowed from 50.85 percent in May to 47.84 percent. Annual core inflation was 70.51 percent in June, lower than May’s 74.98 percent.
On a monthly basis, the consumer price increase was 1.64 percent, the smallest since May 2023, after May’s 3.37 percent. The average opinion of experts was 2.22 percent for June.
