Turkey is a key player in dealing with problems caused by Ukrainian grain imports
Turkey is a key player in solving the market difficulties caused by Ukrainian grain imports, therefore our country requests the cooperation of Ankara in order to extend the Black Sea grain agreement, i.e. to expand the water transport of Ukrainian agricultural products, stated István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, who received Gülşen Karanis Ekşioğlu, the Turkish ambassador, in his office.

The minister drew attention to the fact that Turkey is an extremely important economic partner and political ally of Hungary. The relations between the two nations must be further deepened. At the meeting, the minister reminded that the Ukrainian grain flowing into the territory of the European Union paralyzed the market, caused sales difficulties for farmers and poses a serious challenge to agriculture. Due to the closure of the sea route as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian war, these agricultural products do not reach their traditional markets in Africa and the Middle East. Transport has moved to the mainland, but the solidarity corridor created does not work according to its original purpose, he added. The situation must be resolved as soon as possible, the grain storages are full, the harvest is coming, and the farmers are tense due to sales difficulties, explained the head of the ministry.
István Nagy emphasized that Turkey plays an important role in the partial opening of Black Sea ports
Our country would like to achieve this, if these capacities and the number of ports protected by security guarantees could be further expanded, and in this process it also counts on the cooperation of Ankara. Ukrainian agricultural products must be delivered by sea to their traditional receiving markets. The minister also mentioned that the agriculture ministers of the frontline countries most affected by Ukrainian grain imports have a common position to resolve the situation. István Nagy would also discuss their proposed solutions with his Turkish colleague.
