Regarding the news published in the press, we confirm that since yesterday afternoon, children have been continuously arriving at the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute from several educational and training institutions with complaints of vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration (dehydration) symptoms, presumably due to food poisoning.

MVI-StatisztikaBoth hospitals of our institution, the Üllői út central hospital and the Madarász utca children’s hospital, have smoothly received and treated the 47 children who have arrived so far, who are between the ages of 1 and 14, required infusions, and are currently in stable condition.

The Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute is the country’s designated toxicology and infectology center and operates with full preparedness as a national epidemic hospital. The care of the children who are constantly arriving is organized and of a high professional standard, and our institution has all the necessary personal and material conditions for the safe reception and treatment of the patients who are constantly arriving.

We would like to reassure parents that our doctors and nurses are doing everything possible to ensure the speedy recovery of the children. Hospital care is carried out as usual, without interruption, and we are prepared to involve additional capacities if necessary.

Parents should primarily ensure that the child receives enough fluids, as vomiting and diarrhea can lead to rapid dehydration. It is worth giving the fluid in small sips when cooled, in the form of water, lightly sweetened tea or a special rehydration solution. In the case of a breastfed baby, breastfeeding should never be interrupted, as breast milk is particularly important in this case. A light and mixed diet (not fatty and bloating) can be given until the intestinal system is restored. It is important for the child to rest, stay home, and not go out in public while symptoms persist. Parents should watch for signs of dehydration, such as less urination, dry mouth, drowsiness, and seek medical attention immediately if these appear. A medical examination is also warranted if the symptoms are severe, the child is unable to drink, or bloody stools occur. It is helpful for parents to note when the symptoms began and how frequent the vomiting or diarrhea is, as this will aid in the diagnosis. In most cases, with adequate fluid replacement, rest, and a bland diet, the child will fully recover within a few days.

Our Institute’s Emergency Center continuously receives sick children arriving with their parents through the I. entrance at Üllői út 86.
