Jófogás makes a huge contribution to the circular economy: an average of 400 thousand ads are posted on the classifieds platform every month. A lot of goods that have become unnecessary for others find new owners, from free items to items worth millions. In addition, shopping has become even safer this year, and users can enjoy several additional developments.

One of Hungary’s largest online marketplaces, Jófogás, summarized the second-hand market trends of the year this year as well. Similar to previous trends, free ads were the most sought-after this year, but high-value goods also found a good number of owners. Several record-breaking purchases were made: it is typical even in the real estate market that buyers often pounce on a good offer within a single day.

January and November were the busiest

This year, an average of 400 thousand advertisements were posted on Jófogás every month. We can observe a kind of seasonality throughout the year: the most advertisements were posted in January and November, during the New Year and Black Friday periods. There are also differences within product categories: for example, twice as many baby and maternity products were posted in May compared to other months, which may be due to the change of summer season or the selection of outgrown baby clothes during the spring cleaning.

The most were posted in January among clothing items and sports and leisure products, while the number of technical items and home and household products showed a surge in November. Christmas gifts and New Year’s resolutions all contribute to these being the busiest months.

On the consumer side, the trends are much more in line: January saw the most confirmed purchases in every category, and demand remained consistently high thereafter. Many people try out a new hobby at this time, or sort out their unwanted belongings, so supply and demand meet on the second-hand market. Interestingly, the first purchase of the year took place at 1:20 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, when a Jófogás customer bought a pair of Hidizs MP145 hi-fi headphones.

Jófogás customers bought quickly and for a great price

The market accelerated in all respects in November: the sales time for products was significantly shortened, and they were sold within 3 weeks on average. In addition, this year’s development of Jófogás brought about a huge change for vehicles: ads displayed on Facebook Marketplace with cross-sharing found new owners three times faster. It is therefore worth advertising your unnecessary belongings at the end of this year so that they can quickly find a new owner during the highlighted period.

Although free was the most popular search term this year, buyers are still willing to spend a significant amount for a product. Musical instruments, garden machinery and computer equipment were also sold at high prices. The most expensive ad sold on the marketplace was a Lego Star Wars set, which found a new owner for 350 thousand forints. The top 50 list is almost entirely comprised of technical products, home and household products, and sports and leisure products, and the list of most common search terms is also dominated by technical and electronic products.

The 50 fastest-selling products were purchased within just 1 day, all from these three categories. The top seller of the lightning-fast sales was a Kensington Contour 15.6″ laptop bag, and the most expensive of them was a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra phone, for 290 thousand forints.

The vehicle and real estate markets are also booming

In the case of vehicles, the number of advertisements and purchases was highest in January and February, but there were also a lot of advertisements on Jófogás in November. The top 4 brands were Opel, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Ford: 150-250 vehicles were sold from each this year. Even higher-priced passenger cars found buyers: the most expensive was an Audi A6 station wagon sold for 50 million forints.

Real estate follows a similar pattern: January, March and November were the most active months in terms of purchases. The first In the first half of the year, a 37-room hotel in Hajdúszoboszló held the record for the most expensive property purchase for 570 million forints, but this was preceded by a family house in Debrecen, which was sold for 590 million forints. Here too, it is true that good-priced advertisements sell quickly: residential properties were snapped up within 1 day in both Szombathely and Békéscsaba.
