2020 brought a multiyear leap forward in the financial digitalisation of enterprises
A bit more than one year ago Mastercard launched an infrastructure development programme called Doppio. Just a few months later the Hungarian government announced: from January 2021 retailers and service providers who operate online cash registers must offer some kind of electronic payment option to customers.
Ferenc Szász, business development director of Mastercard told our magazine that they installed more than 20,000 terminals at retailers in just 9 months in the Doppio programme, and the related bureaucratic process was shortened to just a few days. He informed that a few days ago a major breakthrough occurred in the card payment acceptance of small businesses in Hungary: they can also use their Android smartphones for accepting card payment without having an actual payment terminal, thanks to the SoftPos technology.
The whole things works the same way as classic card or mobile wallet payment with a terminal – the customers makes a contactless payment, but the receiving device is a smartphone or a tablet. It is important to note that the related administration is also done electronically. At the moment this technology is the best choice for points of sales where small sums are spent and there is no need to type in a PIN code.
