Generations X and Y would be happy to cook more
According to data from Impetus Research’s éTREND 2025 survey, 81% of Hungarians cook or bake several times a week at home, with 32% doing so almost every day. In a representative survey of 18-69 year olds, 11% of Hungarians said that they only prepare hot meals once a week, while 9% do so less often or never.

One third of adult Hungarians are the sole cook in their family. This was the answer from a higher proportion of women (50%) and members of Generation X (41%). A rather high proportion of Generation Z members (56%) cook together with others at home.
Cooking at home is a chore or obligation for 22% of Hungarians aged 18-69, while 52% don’t see it as a burden. 46% of Hungarians would like to cook more often if they had the time and opportunity to do so.
Every second adult Hungarian likes to try new recipes when cooking. Women, members of Generations Y and Z, and people who cook frequently at home are particularly open to this. 52% of Hungarians like to cook and taste foods from other countries, while 18% prefer to seek out and prepare Hungarian dishes at home. Those with a higher education level, members of Generations Y and Z, frequent home cooks, and health-conscious people are more receptive to international flavours. 38% of Hungarians would buy washed, cleaned and chopped ingredients for cooking in order to save time. Members of Generations Y and Z (45% and 40% respectively), parents with children, and those who rarely cook at home are particularly open to purchasing ready-to-cook ingredients.

éTREND 2025 is a study conducted by Impetus Research, using an online questionnaire completed by 1,000 people, which is representative of the Hungarian population aged 18-69 years. The study analysed the characteristics of Hungarian eating habits.
