More guest nights, but fewer spa guests, were registered in Zalakaros last year
Compared to the previous year, the number of guest nights in Zalakaros increased by almost 7 percent last year, but 4 percent fewer guests visited the Zalakaros Spa – the city’s mayor said at his press conference on Friday.
Judit Czirákiné Pakulár (independent) reported that Zalakaros moved from fourth to third place among the Hungarian cities with the most guest nights last year. Last year, more than 779 thousand guest nights were registered in the settlement, which is 7 percent more than the 2023 figure, and the majority of this, 582 thousand guest nights, can be attributed to domestic tourists.
70 percent of the 197 thousand foreign guest nights were spent in the city by Czech tourists, the remaining share is shared by German, Austrian and Polish guests. The municipality intends to increase foreign guest traffic in the future – the mayor said.
He also indicated that for years there has been a trend that tourists are increasingly choosing commercial accommodation, which is why the number of private accommodation has decreased by 22 percent in two years, and there are now about 500. He added that the local government should also provide help and support in the future so that private accommodation can participate more effectively in sales.
Judit Czirákiné Pakulár reported that almost 559 thousand visitors visited the Zalakaros Bath last year, 22 thousand fewer than in 2023. Since the bath is the main source of tourism in Zalakaros, a new strategy and development concept must be developed, and the structure of the entrance tickets must be transformed in a more family-friendly way
– she said.
