Payments are being made at a faster pace than ever before, so farmers can access the funds they are entitled to three months earlier than in previous years. The Hungarian State Treasury will start allocating funds totaling over 69 billion forints to nearly 25 thousand producers who require sustainable farming support in the coming days – announced State Secretary József Viski in Ráckevé, the Pest county station of this year’s agricultural tour.

As part of the agricultural tour organized jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Associations and Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), the State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development support informed those present about the status of the final payments of individual direct agricultural subsidies, Agri-Environmental Management (AKG) and Organic Farming (ÖKO) subsidies. Within the framework of the Agro-Ecological Program, which also encourages the use of environmentally friendly farming practices, approximately 69 thousand farmers will receive a final payment of HUF 49 billion. The payment of the area-based basic support available to farmers and the additional support for small and medium-sized farms will also take place this week. József Viski said that the payment of green agricultural subsidies is also progressing on schedule, as in the case of AKG, more than 19 thousand farmers will receive an amount exceeding 45 billion forints in March, and in the case of ÖKO, nearly 5,600 farmers will receive a total of almost 24 billion forints.

In his presentation, the State Secretary also reported on the status of investment-type calls

Within the framework of the investment calls of the new EU agricultural support cycle, support decisions worth more than 1,000 billion forints have already been made, based on almost 6,300 submitted applications. He highlighted that the government’s commitment to strengthening Hungarian agriculture is best demonstrated by the fact that the Hungarian government is applying the highest domestic co-financing allowed by EU rules, 80 percent. This means that the Hungarian budget provides eight out of ten forints to farmers so that they can implement their agricultural investments. Only a competitive, higher value-added agriculture can guarantee domestic food security and safe domestic food, which are increasingly valued in the current uncertain economic and global market environment.
