We bought more fondant candy in 2008
According to GfK Hungária’s ConsumerScan, in October 2008-January 2009, Hungarian households bought more fondant candy than a year before; the increase was 4 percent in terms of volume (meaning that we spent 8 percent more on fondant candy, since the average price/kilogram increased by 4 percent). We bought most of our fondant candy in hypermarkets (more than one third), but the supermarket channel increased the most. In small shops, the proportion of fondant candy sold by measure was higher than in other channels. This type of packaging has a lower average price than fondant candy in boxes or plastic bags: the average price of one kilogram was HUF 820 last year, 25 percent less than the average price of the three types together. At the same time, plastic bag packaging is increasingly popular, in 2008 nearly 40 percent of Hungarian households bought fondant candy in bags. Private label shares amounted to a moderate 13 percent of total sales.
