DK demands more RE points from MOHU
According to the Democratic Coalition (DK), the bottle return system in the capital continues to be hampered, especially during the tourist peak season, and the party is therefore calling on MOHU MOL to install more REpont vending machines in Budapest using the unreturned deposit fees.
Dorottya Keszthelyi, DK’s representative to the Budapest and Angyalföld local governments, cited in her statement that last year MOHU had more than 33 billion forints left over from the deposit fees for unreturned plastic bottles, while there are too few vending machines in the capital compared to the population. This leads to long lines, the accumulation of bottles on the streets, and additional burdens for the affected stores.
The party formulated its demands in four points:
The bottle return fee for larger stores should not be reduced, but increased, and the mandatory task should not be shifted to others.
Install more REpoints in Budapest and ensure scheduled collection of beverage packaging.
Do not oblige smaller stores to accept bottle returns instead of REpoints.
Selective collection points should operate reliably and free of charge for users.
The Democratic Coalition published Keszthely’s video statement on its Facebook page.
