The government is committed to supporting the restart and maintenance of livestock farms affected by foot-and-mouth disease, as well as animal health developments. The newly published ministerial decree details the conditions for development grants, wage guarantee reimbursement, heifer rearing support and loan relief.

According to the ministerial decree published in the Hungarian Gazette, affected livestock farmers can apply for a non-refundable grant of up to HUF 50 million for the disease control developments required by the animal health authority as a condition for the establishment of the farm. The application for support can be submitted between September 1 and November 15, 2025.

The decree also provides the opportunity for livestock farmers to also apply for a non-refundable grant to repay the wage guarantee support received from the Wage Guarantee Fund, up to the amount used in the first six months. The condition is that the livestock farmer is declared eligible for compensation under the Compensation Decree. The application must be submitted electronically to the Hungarian Treasury no later than the deadline for repayment of the wage guarantee subsidy.

In addition, the decree also sets out the conditions for the non-refundable heifer rearing subsidy. This can be applied for by livestock farms that introduce new dairy heifers by 28 February 2026 at the latest. The subsidy applies to the first six months of maintenance costs following the introduction, and amounts to HUF 1,197/day/dairy heifer. Applications can also be submitted electronically to the Treasury between 1 and 30 September 2025.

Farmers affected by the regulation on the control of foot-and-mouth disease will benefit further from the fact that they can use the current account loan linked to the Agrár Széchenyi Card Current Account Loan Agreements on easier terms.
