More female managers in logistics – an award was established to improve the gender ratio within the sector
In almost every sector, the gender distribution of managers is unequal, this is especially true for a profession that is considered masculine, such as logistics. Women are underrepresented in the entire sector in Hungary, their proportion is only 25 percent. The results of female managers must be shown so that as many women as possible are motivated to build a career in logistics – among other things, the “Female Logistician of the Year” award was created, which was presented for the first time.
Before the pandemic, the number of people employed in the logistics sector increased year by year, but the year 2020 brought a big decline. At that time, nearly 26,000 people were dismissed from the sector, which represented 8.5 percent of the employees. Expansion has been seen again since 2020, the sector’s workforce is growing by 5,000 people per year, but this is still below the record year of 2019, when more than 306,000 people worked in logistics*.
Logistics is one of the sectors where the gender ratio is typically very unequal, and this inequality in our country has also been stagnant for years at 25 percent, that is, only one in four employed women**. Within the sector, the ratio of physical work is significant, men’s physiques are better suited to hauling, tarpaulin, and palletizing, but there is an opportunity to improve the gender ratio among white-collar workers. Among other things, Waberer’s Group set this goal when they founded the “Female Logistician of the Year” award together with the Navigátorvilág publishing house, which was presented for the first time this year. The purpose of the award is to draw attention to the importance of gender equality, to open new doors for talented female leaders, and to gain attention for their achievements in a profession dominated by men.
