Horseradish price increased more than one and a half times in a year

According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), imports of beetroot (with radishes and other similar root vegetables) in Hungary decreased by 5 percent to 7.6 thousand tons, while exports increased by 30 percent to 1.44 thousand tons in the first eleven months of 2024 compared to the previous year. The price of domestic beetroot on the Budapest Wholesale Market increased by 4 percent to 316 forints/kilogram in 2024 compared to the previous year.

In the first eight weeks of this year, the price of domestic beetroot was 35 percent higher (330 forints/kilogram) than in the same period in 2024

According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), imports of celeriac in Hungary decreased by 32 percent to 3.28 thousand tons, and exports decreased by 42 percent to 1.08 thousand tons in the first eleven months of 2024 compared to the previous year. At the Budapest Wholesale Market, the price of domestic, kilogram-packed celery root was 512 forints/kilogram (+20 percent), and that of the piece-packed product was 374 forints/piece (+9 percent) in 2024. In the first eight weeks of this year, the price of the kilogram-packed product increased by 49 percent to 572 forints/kilogram, and the piece-packed product was available at a 7 percent higher price (371 forints/piece) than a year earlier.
