More than two million poultry were slaughtered because of bird flu in Taiwan
So far more than two million poultry had to be cut down, due to the spreading bird flu epidemic on the island of Taiwan. According to the latest nerws a protected birds, a black-faced spoonbill is among the victims of the infection.
This is the most serious avian influenza epidemic of the past decade in Taiwan, and according to the reports the losses are huge. 655 farms were inspected in fourteen cities and the traces of the H5 subtype werte found at all the tested farms. Most of these farms are dealing with goose, a few of them with duck and chicken. (Trebitsch Péter, MTI)
