E.ON Drive Infrastructure expands its e-charging network at ALDI with a development worth more than two billion forints
E.ON Drive Infrastructure Hungary (EDRI) is increasing the performance of its electric car chargers at ALDI stores nationwide; with the development worth more than two billion forints, 50 stores will replace traditional AC chargers with fast chargers – the two companies informed MTI in a joint statement on Thursday.
The two corporate groups began their cooperation in 2018 and signed an agreement to develop charging facilities for electric vehicle users in the parking lots of 123 ALDI stores. Since the beginning of the agreement, the number of affected stores has continued to expand, so EDRI has now built and operates more than 160 electric charging points at the retail chain’s stores in 50 settlements across the country. In addition, an additional 120 charging devices are in the process of being installed or replaced.
Market demand for electric charging capacities has increased dramatically in recent times. Therefore, in parallel with the expansion, EDRI will start replacing more than 90 alternating current (AC) chargers in the parking lots of 50 ALDI stores with higher-performance direct current (FC – fast charger) fast chargers over the next two years.
As a result of the development worth more than two billion forints, FC fast chargers with a power of at least 50 kW will be installed in almost every major city besides Budapest. The company will also install the most modern UFC (ultra fast charger) ultra-fast charging equipment at more than 30 locations at ALDI stores in the capital and in the countryside.
EDRI, part of the E.ON Group, is the leading European charging station operator. The company also develops, builds and operates a public charging network in Hungary that can be used for any type of electric vehicle. The company has over 7,100 public charging points in 11 European countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands and Hungary.
In cooperation with its location partners, EDRI is expanding its network across Europe by installing an additional 1,000 high-power charging points every year. It currently has over 400 charging points in Hungary, of which 72 have a capacity of 300 kW.
