More than two tonnes of rotten meat was found in a van on the M5
The tax inspectors found more than two tons of spoiled meat in an overweight van on the M5 highway, the National Tax and Customs Administration informed MTI on Wednesday.
A Hungarian van was traveling from Szeged to Budapest, which was clearly overweight. The tax inspectors escorted him off the M5 motorway to check. During the control, it was found that the weight of the vehicle was more than 5 tons instead of the permitted 3.5 tons.
The financial officers searched the van’s cargo space, where 2,587 kilograms of bone-in chicken breasts were stored. It also turned out that the cooling device was not switched on and the vehicle’s thermometer showed 21.5 degrees Celsius. The patrols immediately notified the employees of the National Food Chain Safety Office, who ordered the meat to be locked up and destroyed.
