More than one million guest nights were registered during the autumn break in domestic accommodations
During the autumn break, nearly half a million guests set out in Hungary. Most of the visitors came from abroad, while 45% of the guests were domestic guests. According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center, twice as many people under the age of 18 traveled during the fall break this year than in the previous week. After Budapest, most of them spent time in the Balaton area, while the over 65 age group visited the Bük-Sárvár area the most after Budapest. Most of the accommodation was booked by men and every third reservation was for 3 or more nights.
The school break brought a strong desire to travel, with 1,48,000 guest nights recorded at accommodations throughout the country. The winners of the period between October 27 and November 5 were the rural accommodations, three quarters of the guests traveled to destinations beyond the capital. Most of them came from Budapest, Pest county and Győr-Moson-Sopron county to explore the domestic landscapes, but many guests from Bács-Kiskun and Hajdú-Bihar counties also chose rural destinations. A third of the guests headed for Budapest these days. Budapest remains popular among foreigners, 84% of guest nights were international reservations. The most visitors from abroad were British, Italian and German, but many also came from the United States of America and Austria.
Based on the data, the effect of the holidays was evident: twice as many under-18s rested in a domestic accommodation than in the week before the fall break. The first Saturday of the holiday, October 28, was the most popular, with over 140,000 overnight guests on that day. Hotels were popular among both domestic and foreign guests, nearly 60% of reservations were made in hotels: every second was spent in 4-star hotels, every third in 3-star and every fourth in private and other accommodations.
