More than HUF 6 billion in extraordinary support was given to poultry and pig sow farms
To support the producers most affected by the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war – under pressure from the EU member states, including Hungary – an extraordinary EU agricultural crisis management package of 500 million euros was created in the spring.
The Ministry of Agriculture then made the decision that due to the exceptionally high feed prices, the pork and poultry sectors that are in a particularly difficult situation may request support from the funds allocated to Hungary, which the affected farmers did in July.
Domestic livestock keepers have to face many serious challenges
The rise in prices on the grain market, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the energy crisis and increase in production costs resulting from the failed EU sanctions are all difficulties that significantly complicate the situation of the players in the sector. The Hungarian State Treasury recently paid HUF 4.2 billion for poultry farmers and HUF 2 billion for sow farmers under the title of exceptional adaptation support for poultry farmers. By partially compensating the extremely high production costs currently affecting the sector, the quick disbursement contributes to ensuring the production conditions, and through this to the continuous maintenance of food security of domestic origin in both poultry and pork products.
