PENNY provided assistance to more than 53 thousand people in need in 2024
Food rescue, equestrian therapy, fulfilling the wishes of sick children and supporting people living in foster families – some of the highlighted areas of PENNY’s 2024 charity activities. In the spirit of social responsibility, the company helped those in need through various programs in cooperation with numerous professional partners last year, and provided targeted support to a total of 53 thousand people. The discount chain also involved its employees and customers in its charitable initiatives.
“Social responsibility is not only a fundamental part of our corporate operations for us, but also a matter of our heart. We pay special attention to helping those in need not only during the holiday season, but also throughout the year. In achieving our strategic goals, we can achieve real assistance with our long-term partnerships, in which our employees and customers also actively participate. We are very pleased that in 2024 we saved and delivered nearly 2,000 tons of food to the needy, and contributed to the physical and mental health of thousands of children,”
– said Eszter Kazatsay, PENNY’s communications manager.
Food rescue every day of the year
Through its stores, PENNY carries out coordinated food rescue activities on a daily basis in cooperation with the Hungarian Food Bank Association, the Maltese Charity Service and the Ecumenical Aid Organization. In 2024, the company, together with its partners, saved edible but no longer saleable food from being thrown away for more than 36,000 people in need.
Teaming up for children living with foster parents
With the involvement of its employees and customers, PENNY Hungary supported children living with foster parents in SOS Children’s Villages in several ways, thus covering the organization’s entire range of beneficiaries, a total of 400 people. In addition to the material donations – clothing, toys and non-perishable food – sufficient for several months, a total of 10 million forints in monetary donations were collected for the organization through the newspaper promotion, from which new furniture and household appliances will be purchased, making the homes of the small residents more comfortable.
