More than 45 tons of food from PENNY Hungary
PENNY has teamed up with the Hungarian Red Cross, the International Children’s Rescue Service and the Miracle Lamp Foundation to make Christmas more beautiful for needy families with food, money, experience programs and other support as the holidays approach.
As the holidays approached, the two organizations expanded their multi-year and continuously operating food subsidy program. As part of the two-day fundraiser, non-perishable food, sweets, cleaning products and chemicals were distributed. 162 PENNY stores, 406 Red Cross employees and 972 volunteers joined the nationwide campaign, and the participants spent a total of 6,334 hours collecting donations. In addition, the store chain offered HUF 20 for each product marked in the discount newspaper for a week, from which HUF 10 million was collected to help families during the festive period. At the 8 PENNY Santa Run, they collected toys for children in need.
The snacks and gifts provided by the food chain brought smiles to the faces of more than 1,300 children at the Everybody’s Christmas event organized by the foundation and at the festive performance of The Nutcracker at the Hungarian Opera House. The store chain supported the work of the foundation with a total of HUF 1.6 million worth of food donations.
