UNICEF Hungary’s University Climate Protection Roadshow kicked off in Veszprém with more than 200 students from Veszprém
UNICEF Hungary’s University Climate Protection Roadshow continued in Veszprém, where more than 200 university students participated in the program’s discussions and workshops. The event took place at the University of Pannonia and aimed to engage young people in direct dialogue with experts and decision-makers on the most important issues of climate change.
The event was opened by Ágnes Rajna (UNICEF Hungary), Dr. János Abonyi, Rector, and Csaba Gondola, State Secretary for Circular Economy and Climate Policy at the Ministry of Energy. The opening speeches highlighted that involving young people is essential for the success of climate protection measures.
Roundtable discussion: intergenerational dialogue on climate
In the central panel discussion – which included economist-sociologist Csaba Gondola, Zoltán Pogátsa and UNICEF young ambassadors, among others – the students actively participated in the discussion. The discussion touched on issues such as the role of individual and systemic action, the management of climate anxiety, and the opportunities for young people to assert their interests.
Six interactive workshops helped transfer practical knowledge
The roundtable was followed by six sessions on different topics, including:
-
digital carbon footprint reduction training,
-
climate summit negotiation simulation,
-
nature connection walk,
-
World Café discussions,
-
UNICEF workshop presenting advocacy techniques.
The aim of the sessions was to provide students with concrete tools for everyday action and managing their own emotional burdens
Lack of knowledge is one of the biggest obstacles
According to recent national surveys by UNICEF Hungary, three-quarters of young people feel that they do not have enough information about climate change tailored to their age – and this is a major source of anxiety. The roadshow aims to reduce this gap.
The roadshow continues – new connections are expected
The Veszprém event was held within the framework of the Climate Heroes program, with the support of the Ministry of Energy and the participation of the University of Pannonia. The organization continues to welcome young people who want to actively participate in climate protection.
