The producer price of garlic is more than 20 percent higher
According to Eurostat data, the yield of garlic was between 5.2 and 7.1 thousand tons in the last five years, and in 2023, 5.26 thousand tons of garlic were harvested from 710 hectares, which was 4 percent less than the year before.

According to KSH data, the import of garlic decreased by 14 percent to 724.2 tons between January and July 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. Less garlic arrived from Spain (-11 percent, 273.3 tons), Turkey (-70 percent, 44.7 tons), but more garlic from the Netherlands (+58 percent, 221.8 tons).
400-680 tons of garlic are exported annually, mainly to neighboring countries, exports fell by 38 percent to 103.9 tons in the observed period
According to the data of AKI PÁIR, garlic was almost constantly on offer at the Budapest Wholesale Market this year. Domestically grown, large garlic in the 45 mm+ size category appeared earlier this year, in the 19th week, at a price of HUF 1,800/kilogram. The producer price of garlic was 22 percent higher (HUF 1,414/kilogram) 2024 22–43. per week at the average price of the same period of the previous year.
