Eggs cost more than 17 percent less
Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 21 percent to 57,000 tons in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Three quarters of imports came from Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The community’s egg and egg product exports increased by 14 percent to 175,000 tons in January-June 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. In the EU, the packing point price of table eggs was 211 euros/100 kilograms in the first thirty-nine weeks of 2024, which decreased by 11 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Based on KSH data, Hungary bought 16,000 tons of shell eggs (-17 percent) from the international market in the first seven months of 2024, within which it delivered 5 percent more, almost 11,000 tons of fresh eggs. The export of shell eggs increased by 8 percent to 7 thousand tons, within which the export of fresh eggs was 728 tons (-6 percent) between January and July 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. According to the data of the AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of caged table eggs (M+L) in Hungary was HUF 48.33/piece in the first thirty-nine weeks of 2024, which was 17.8 percent lower than the average price of the same period in 2023.
