Spanish cooperative and retailer Covirán has upgraded over 100 supermarkets in just over a year, achieving a major milestone in its Covirán Contigo project.

This initiative, designed to support and promote the development of its members, includes 108 stores, comprising 47 Covirán Origen and 61 Covirán Plus formats, ESM Magazine reports.

The expansion includes 55 new openings and 53 renovations across various Spanish regions, particularly in Andalusia, and six new supermarkets in Portugal.

This project aims to offer the best store options, allowing entrepreneurs and business owners to improve their businesses from the outset, quickly perceiving changes and taking advantage of all the potential offered by the cooperative model.

The flexibility and adaptability of the Origen and Plus formats have made them popular choices for new members, strengthening Covirán’s footprint in both Spain and Portugal while upholding its cooperative values of proximity, commitment, and local development.

Modernisation Project

The CEO of Covirán, Esteban Gutiérrez, stated, “A year ago, we launched Covirán Contigo to support our members in modernising their stores and improving customer service.

“Today, we have opened more than 100 stores, consolidating a profitable and sustainable cooperative model that combines autonomy with professional support and strengths, such as proximity, fresh produce, and an efficient supply chain.”

Covirán’s president, José Antonio Benito, added, “We, the governing board, and all the partners are very proud of the importance of the Covirán Contigo project, the professionalisation it entails, and the support it provides in creating efficient, promising businesses for our members and enjoyable ones for our customers.”
