The rise in prices came in several waves: food inflation is already over 34 percent
Looking back over the past 12 months, it can be seen that Hungarian stores were hit by price increases in several waves.
The first jump occurred at the end of last year, when annual inflation suddenly jumped from the previous 1-2 percent to around 10 percent, and then in February-March of this year, instead of 10, we were talking about 20 percent, and although we hoped at the time that from April the beat, it didn’t work out in the end. Not so much that, unfortunately, prices have been rising steadily and at a high pace since then – states the G7 based on its own, unofficial food price measurements.
The price increase calculated on the basis of the total cost of our large purchases rose from 20 percent in April to nearly 25 percent in May, then roughly 30 percent in June, and almost 35 percent in July. We emphasize that all this is understood on an annual basis, so there is no seasonality in it: we paid almost 35 percent more for food now than last July, and in June it was “only” 30 percent compared to last June.
