Bluetongue has appeared in several European Union countries
The bluetongue epidemic broke out in the Netherlands in September 2023. At the beginning of October, Germany and Belgium, among the previously exempt member states, announced the appearance of the disease close to the Dutch border. Since the first reported case, no disease-susceptible animals have been transported to Hungary from the Netherlands.

Most of the 59 cattle shipments that arrived before this (since July 1) were sent to collection stations, from where they had already left the territory of the European Union. For the individuals still in our country, the authority ordered a screening test in order to detect the possible presence of the virus and prevent its spread. In addition, in the future, shipments from the Netherlands will be subject to increased inspection and screening tests.
At the beginning of October, the disease was also identified in Germany and Belgium near the Dutch border
There is currently no vaccine available against the virus strain (serotype 3), which is still being precisely determined. More information on bluetongue can be found on Nébih’s website.
