More apples are sold this year than last year
In December, the population consumed 430,000 tons of apples, while in January we already consumed 674,000 tons of apples, i.e. stocks are running out faster and faster – according to the WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) report on the situation on February 1, 2023.
According to WAPA’s report reflecting the situation on February 1, 2023, there were 3.37 million tons in European warehouses, which is 6.4% lower than the amount measured at the same time in 2022. It is gratifying that compared to 430,000 tons in December, the consumption in January was 674,000 tons, which means that stocks are running out at a good pace.
There is still the largest amount of the Golden Delicious variety in the warehouses, 734 thousand tons (-21.9%), and the lower rungs of the imaginary podium are Gala (314 thousand tons, -19.3%) and Red Jonaprince (270 thousand tons, +23%) is occupied.
