Tobacco growing creates jobs in disadvantageous regions
This year Hungarian tobacco growers are expected to produce 6,171 tons of tobacco on 3,400 hectares of land. The National Association of Tobacco Growers and NAK have stressed the importance of the sector: it gives work to 10,000-12,000 people, mainly in the poor regions of the country. Since 2014 no EU-funding has been available to tobacco farmers, since then the government has been subsidising the sector. //
