Tokaj announces art competition with a total prize of ten million forints

They wrote that young artists can submit their applications in eight themes from Tuesday for the call announced jointly with the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ). The theme winners will receive a net prize of one million forints, and the other three winners in the categories, a total of twenty-four, will receive a net prize of one hundred thousand forints.

The winning works, measuring approximately three square meters, will be exhibited in frequented areas of the old town of Tokaj, so the artistic mosaics will not only illustrate the city’s rich history, but can also become selfie spots for tourists and guests arriving there,

they added.

The call is open to applications from people aged 18 to 35 who have graduated in art or are currently working in the art department of a higher education institution. Applications and application documents can be submitted until May 30 via the website https://jelentkezes.tokajmozaikpalyazat.hu/.

Regarding the works, the municipality stated that they must fit into the historical city center of Tokaj in their visual world and style. The creators must apply with two plans, one of which they can freely choose, and the other is determined by an algorithm following the topic choices. Applicants can also use artificial intelligence to prepare the A4-sized, portrait-format plans.

They added that during the evaluation, the jury will particularly examine the connection of each entry to the topic and whether it has unique stylistic features that are capable of capturing the attention of viewers. They also evaluate whether the design provides an interactive experience, “which will make visitors happy to take photos in front of the artwork.”

The judging committee expects originality from applicants, meaning their graphic design must present the topic from a new, exciting perspective,
