FAO’s food price index is on its fifteen-month peak
The food prices further increased in December. The FAO global price index of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization is on its fifteen-month peak.
The international organizations explained the increase, with mainly the price increase of sugar, oilseeds and dairy product prices.
The FAO food price index – which records the monthly global price changes, on the basis of a specific group of food basket – was 171.9 points after the 168 points of November.
This is the highest indicator since September 2008, but still 20 percent lower than in June 2008, when global food prices broke records. The indicator increases for the fifth consecutive month and FAO experts expect further inflation, in the forthcoming months – reports MTI.
