With a noticeable improvement, the consumer sentiment in the United States reached a fifteen years peak in May, according to a regular monthly survey of the University of Michigan.
According to preliminary data released on Friday, the consumer sentiment index increased in April to 102.4 points – the highest since January 2004. Analysts expected a slight increase of 97.5 points.
Among the sub-indices, the consumer expectations for the next six months increased from 87.4 points to 96.0 points, the highest level since January 2004, while the sub-index reflecting the current situation rose from 112.3 points to 112.4 points. (MTI)
