The Neumann Society awarded twelve domestic IT professionals and researchers
The John Neumann Computer Science Society presented its traditional professional awards at this year’s ÚjIT – Innovation and Informatics conference, recognizing outstanding researchers, educators and young talents in Hungarian informatics. The event, organized jointly with HUN-REN SZTAKI, was part of the official program series of the 200th Anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Science Festival.
The conference was opened by a presentation by Prof. Dr. László Palkovics, Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence, who presented how the goals of the Hungarian AI strategy are integrated into specific government measures. The program focused on the coordination of innovation, regulation and development policy, as well as practical examples of industrial AI applications.
Awards were announced in several categories at the event:
Lifetime Achievement Award
– Prof. Dr. Péter Norbert Szolgay, an internationally recognized researcher in cellular neural networks and analog-mixed-signal circuits, received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Neumann Award
– Sándor Bárány, an outstanding figure in Hungarian computer science history,
– Prof. Dr. Katalin Hangos, a renowned researcher in systems and control theory,
– Prof. Dr. Márta Takács, an international expert in fuzzy methods, received the award.
Kalmár Prize
– Dr. Attila Fazekas, a researcher in digital topology,
– Prof. Dr. Gábor Szederkényi, a leading expert in modern control theory, received the award.
János Kemény Award
– Dr. Máté Cserép, geospatial information and remote sensing researcher,
– Dr. András Éles, an energy management and optimization specialist, received the award for researchers under 35.
Tarján Memorial Medal
Four professionals were awarded for their work in the education and promotion of informatics: Dóra Orsolya Aknai, Dr. Bencé Gaál, Dr. Kelemen András Félix and Majoros József. The conference started with a memorial service for Dr. Bálint Dömölki, a prominent figure in Hungarian computer science who recently passed away. The Neumann Society and HUN-REN SZTAKI are prominent institutions of Hungarian digital culture, research and talent development, which have played a decisive role in supporting IT talent and innovation for decades.
