Together, Nestlé and Tesco collected HUF 13 million for Magyar Élélmiszerbank
In the spring charity campaign realized by Nestlé and Tesco, the two companies supported the work of the Hungarian Food Bank Association with 13 million forints, the organization said in a statement on Monday.
During the spring charity campaign – between May 9 and 22 – Nestlé offered 1 percent of the price of Nestlé products purchased in Tesco hypermarkets – including sweets, coffee, pet food and condiments – and Tesco doubled the amount collected in this way, so a total of approximately HUF 12.5 million was raised to feed the needy – read the announcement.
As it is written, Tesco supplements the donation to HUF 13 million, which is received by the Hungarian Food Bank Association, who use the amount for food rescue, and thanks to this, they are able to deliver a hundred thousand food packages to the needy.
These packages typically contain near-expiration, packaging defects, but high-quality products that are perfectly suitable for consumption, which the organization collects from stores and food manufacturers on a daily basis.
“The offer from the two companies comes at the best possible time, since the cold months are already here, when the number of requests for help always jumps significantly. For people in need, it is a serious burden that they have to spend more on heating, winter clothes and medicines. Thanks to the food donations hopefully they will be able to cope with the obstacles more easily”
– the announcement quotes Balázs Cseh, president of the Food Bank.
