Sziget brought ten percent more guest nights than last year
Around 178,000 guests were welcomed by the hotels in the capital on August 7-12. during the Sziget festival. Based on the data of the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), a total of 336,000 guest nights were registered by the capital’s accommodations, a tenth more than during last year’s event. In particular, the interest of foreigners was outstanding, who arrived 20% more and spent 10% more guest nights in Budapest than during last year’s festival. Compared to the same period of the week before Sziget, the economic and tourism yield of the event is even more visible: the number of guest nights in the capital exceeded the values of the previous week by a quarter, while the income of accommodation exceeded the values of the previous week by more than a third.
Around 160,000 foreign guests who arrived during the biggest music festival of the summer spent 10% more nights in Budapest than during last year’s event. Most of the foreign travelers came from the Netherlands this time, followed by the Italians, the British, the Germans and the Spanish. During the festival, nearly 10% of the tourists staying in the capital came from the country, of which about 14% were from the capital themselves. Following them, most people came from Debrecen, Miskolc, Szeged, Pécs and Nyíregyháza to the accommodation in the capital.
Sziget also had a rejuvenating effect on the city’s clientele: 59% of tourists staying in Budapest during the festival were under 34 years old. Among them, the most populous age group was 25-34 years old, with a share of 29%, twenty percent of them were 19-24 years old, and 10% came from young people under 18 years old.
