A few days earlier, suspicions arose that protected animals were being kept in a family house in Keszthely and its yard, including a cat resembling a cheetah. On Tuesday afternoon, employees of the Zala County Government Office and the Balaton Uplands National Park raided the illegal zoo, then notified the police. Animals were also found in the living room, yard and outbuildings, including moderately dangerous, protected and endangered individuals. The secret zoo contained common skunks, servals, muntjac deer, raccoons, meerkats, marmosets, special parrots and a proboscis bear. The police arrested and brought to the police station the 45-year-old man living in the family home, who was questioned on charges of damaging nature. Some of the animals were placed in the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, while the nature conservation authority took care of the rest.
