We regard Hungarian gray cattle with respect and esteem
A priority goal is to improve and develop the competitiveness of livestock farms, as well as to support the survival of protected native and endangered animal breeds – stated Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at the VII. Hungarian Gray Cattle in the Carpathian Basin at the International Conference, Saturday, Hortobágy.

At the conference, the minister called the Hungarian gray a symbol of Hungarian animal husbandry. Cattle breeders and goulash farmers are the strongest people in the plain, the experience, wisdom and knowledge they possess is a priceless treasure that we must appreciate, he added. He explained that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to maintain priority support for animal husbandry in the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy. One of the possibilities concerns investment subsidies. In July, the ministry announced tenders aimed at renewing livestock farms. Small-scale developments are supported with a HUF 50 billion budget, while a HUF 150 billion budget is available for larger investments. The support can be requested not only for the construction of new buildings, but also for the purchase of equipment and technological development. Those concerned can submit applications from September 17 and October 15, the minister emphasized.
In his speech, István Nagy touched on gene conservation and animal welfare subsidies
Tenders for the support of activities related to the preservation of endangered agricultural and agricultural animal breeds undergoing breed reconstruction, the improvement of the housing, feeding and hygiene conditions of beef cattle – including Hungarian gray cattle – and the fight against antimicrobial resistance are already under evaluation. In the fall, another support opportunity is expected to open up. This tender – similar to the previous support – specifically supports the maintenance of the herds of low numbers of protected native, endangered agricultural and agricultural animal breeds undergoing breed reconstruction under in situ conditions, he added. The minister emphasized that Hungary does not exist without the countryside. There is no rural Hungary without competitive agriculture and competitive animal husbandry.
