Product recall in Europe: Coca-Cola takes steps in several countries to protect health
Coca-Cola has recalled certain products in several European countries, including Coca-Cola soft drinks, Sprite and Fanta, after tests revealed high levels of chlorate in these drinks. The recall affects Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, France and Luxembourg. Hungary is not affected according to current information.
The recalled products come from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ Belgian bottling plant and were sold in aluminum cans and glass bottles. According to the company, most of the problematic products have already been removed from stores and further steps are being taken to recall unsold stocks.
Chlorate, which comes from chlorine disinfectants, can pose a health risk if consumed over a long period of time. It can cause thyroid problems, especially in children, so exceeding the limit values requires serious attention.
