Will the Hungarian fruit win on the chips-tax?

According to the Ministry of Rural Development; one of the winners of the public health product tax, the so-called chips-tax may be domestic agriculture, because it will help local production and will strengthen food security – writes mfor.hu.

It is a fact there is an urgent need for the boom of the national fruit and vegetable growing industry and for a consumption boost (only the third of the Hungarians cares to buy domestic vegetables and fruits) and the weather conditions of the recent years also made the situation of farmers harder. Household consumption also shows a stagnant trend, in addition domestic products are sometimes pushed into the background – said Mártonffy Béla president of FruitVeB Interprofessional Organisation.
