A freezer the size of a tennis court, a cold storage warehouse the size of 5 supermarkets, 4 heat zones and 100 thousand refrigerated products per day – this is Kifli.hu’s summer logistics
Nearly 100 thousand chilled and more than 6600 frozen products are handled daily by the Kifli.hu logistics system during the peak of summer, while freshness does not let up by a single degree. The uninterrupted cold chain, seasonal stocking and multi-temperature zone storage ensure that even in the hottest heat waves, customers’ favorite products – from ice cream to grilled sausages – arrive flawlessly.
The summer months not only mean a rise in temperature, but also a surge in demand for fresh food. The Kifli.hu logistics team is well prepared for the season every year to ensure uninterrupted service despite the increased demands, in the premium quality that the company is accustomed to. The popular online supermarket currently offers more than 250 types of ice cream, and also offers more than 300 products for baking and stewing, so the proper preparation of the warehouse and delivery systems is essential for a smooth supply.
Kifli.hu also handles a significant volume in its daily operations during the summer: it sells nearly 100 thousand units of refrigerated products per day, and more than 6,600 units of frozen products are delivered to customers per day.
Preparations begin in the spring months: at this time, not only is the vehicle fleet inspected, but special attention is also paid to the maintenance of the cooling systems so that the cold chain from the warehouse to the customer’s door operates flawlessly. In addition, close cooperation is also taking place with suppliers to ensure seasonal supply.
The range of product categories is also optimized following the development of demand. The most popular summer products – such as chilled drinks, frozen foods or fresh vegetables and fruits – receive special attention during stocking. The company aims to offer the widest possible range of these seasonal favorites for as long as possible.
Different temperature zones ensure the safe storage of fresh food in the Kifli.hu warehouse: a 294 square meter storage area the size of a tennis court is available for frozen products between -18 and -25°C. A 1,200 square meter section, equivalent to the area of 5 supermarkets, provides a temperature of 0–2°C for chilled goods, while two separate zones serve the different needs of vegetables and fruits: a 520 square meter area operates at 4–6°C and a 460 square meter section operates at 8–12°C.
For Kifli.hu, maintaining the cold chain without interruption is of paramount importance not only in the summer, but all year round. “The basic logistical challenges for us are constant: we always strive to ensure that the customer receives the best possible quality, fresh product. However, during the summer period, due to the increased volumes, we also adapt our systems to this, so that we can quickly respond to changing demands,” said Rita Szalma, commercial director of Kifli.hu.
