Sea, hiking, the Far East: these are the summer travel trends for 2025
Hungarian travelers are heading towards proven destinations this summer, while inbound tourism also seems to be returning strongly to pre-Covid levels. Pénzcentrum spoke with Balázs Bakó, spokesperson for MUISZ, and Bálint Erdei, managing director of Cityrama, about current trends, changes in booking habits, and how Budapest fits into the international tourism circulation.
Classic summer destinations are in store
Croatia, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Turkey continue to be the most popular seaside destinations among Hungarian travelers. The latter is particularly popular with its outstanding price-value ratio and family-friendly all-inclusive packages – especially among families with young children and teenagers.
“The agencies have been working with a wide range of offers for years, and the pre-booking discounts are also attractive. Those who book on time get a better price and a better room,” said Balázs Bakó. Albania and Bulgaria also remain on the hit list, while Oman and Zanzibar have also been added to the map for winter exotic trips.
Advance booking or last minute?
Although the last minute option remains popular, more and more people are choosing advance booking, especially families. From December to March, discounts of up to 10–30 percent are available, and there is an even greater selection of family rooms and apartments with a sea view.
Recovering from the crisis
During the Covid period, travel agency traffic dropped drastically, but demand has rebounded since the spring of 2022. Today, about one million Hungarians travel abroad annually, mainly on one-week charter beach trips. Although war news and geopolitical risks cause some caution, the overall trend is upward.
